There are many speculations of where coffee originated from, but one story in particular seems to stand the test of time.
Legend says it was in Ethiopia, somewhere in the 9th century, where a goat herder named Kaldi first discovered the potential of these beloved beans. Kaldi’s goats uncovered the berries growing from a certain tree and after consuming them, he noticed that they did not want to sleep and instead took to dancing the night away.
Kaldi initially thought he was going crazy, but after trying the berries himself, he immediately started dancing with the goats!
After reporting this to the abbot of the local monastary, the berries were transformed into a drink that caused the abbot to remain alert during the long hours of evening prayer. That abbot shared the discovery with the other monks at the monastary, and the knowledge of the berries spread.
As word moved east and coffee reached the Arabian Peninsula, it began a journey which would bring these berries across the globe, and the rest is history.
